Kurzbeschreibung: Howto create and restore an Easy Recovery backup set without a connection to the Empirum server
Beschreibung:Scenario:
Customer uses standalone PCs that store and Easy Recovery image of the system-drive C: on the D:-drive.
D: can be a second partition or an external USB drive.
They have NO connection to an Empirum server so the default restore as provided by ER does not work.
For disaster recovery they need a recovery CD that automatically restores the last backup set.
Solution:
When running the restore from the CD a slightly modified startnet.cmd checks for an existing backup image and immediately starts a restore.
Implementation:
Sample: C: will be backed up to d:\erbackup\backup1
1) Create a backup image from the command line (requires admin-rights, e.g. via RUNAS or SETUPCLI):
erecovery backup /vsc: /fd:\erbackup\backup1
The d:\erbackup directory must exist before running this command!
2) Modify the file C:\Empirum\EmpInst\DRV\WinPE2\x86\PEPatch\Windows\System32\startnet.cmd like this:
@echo off
if exist \Empirum\Drv\peimg.cmd call \Empirum\Drv\peimg.cmd
wpeinit
>>> if exist d:\erbackup\backup1.eri goto CD-Restore
\Empirum\setup.exe \Empirum\winpe2.inf
>>> goto end
>>> :CD-Restore
>>> Echo CD-Restore started!
>>> x:\empirum\erecovery restore /vmc: /fd:\erbackup\backup1
>>> exit
>>> :end
3) Create a WinPE2-ISO-image and burn it to a CD (now contains the new startnet.cmd)
4) Try a restore: Boot from the CD. The restore should automatically start the restore from the D:\ERBackup-directory.
No network connection required!
The modified startnet.cmd does not interfere with the standard behaviour of the ER so it does not need to be restored to its original state after creating the ISO image.
